Thelen Auto Group was founded in 1977 by Tom Thelen. At the time we represented Volkswagen and Mazda. Soon after our commitment to service even after the sale built a solid reputation in the Tri-City market, allowing us to grow.
Then in 1984 Tom purchased Bay Valley Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge which was a Chrysler factory store about to be closed. With customer service even after the sale a company mantra, it was only a short time before the store was very successful, allowing us to purchase Starling Subaru in Midland in 1994 and Saginaw Autohaus in 1996 adding the Audi brand.
Joe Thelen was the first of Tom's sons to enter in the business in 1984 and in 1989 became the General Manager of Thelen VW Mazda Subaru Audi.
In 1988 Mike Thelen entered the family business and after years of experience became the General Manager of the Chrysler Dodge Kia store in 1996. Mike also spent several years as the the Fixed Operations Director of all of our stores.
Pat Thelen joined us as the General Manager of Thelen Chrysler Dodge Kia and then in 1996 moved to Thelen Honda after the purchase of 3D Honda in Midland.
Today the Thelen Auto Group now encompasses 10 franchises:

Tom Thelen is still active in the business. In 2004 he served the Michigan Auto Dealers Association as their President, and continues today to sit on the Executive Board of Directors.
